SARIKEI: A woman sustained a shoulder injury following a collision between an ambulance and a car at the Jalan Masjid Lama-Jalan Shariff Manshor traffic light intersection yesterday (Nov 25).
The accident happened at around 11.20 am when the ambulance driven by a 41-year-old man, was transporting a patient from Jalan Masjid Lama to Sarikei Hospital.
At the same time, a Honda Jazz driven by a 52-year-old man entered the intersection on a green light as he was heading towards Sarikei town from Jalan Shariff Manshor.
Preliminary investigations found that the collision occurred as the ambulance approached from the right with sirens and emergency lights activated.
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis confirmed that both drivers were unharmed, but a 36-year-old female front-seat passenger in the Honda Jazz sustained a shoulder injury.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 and liable to jail of up to 12 months, upon conviction.
