SIBU: These past few days have seen many people rushing to the Sibu Terminal Express boat jetty to board boats to travel back to their longhouses, in time to celebrate the coming Christmas celebration with their loved ones.
A smiling Mia Lagan, 30, said she was going to Kapit to celebrate Christmas with her parents and family members.
“I’m returning home early to spend more time with my parents during the Christmas holiday,” said Mia, who is working as a clerk in Sibu.
Another passenger, Steward Anyi, 34, from Kapit said that he and his family of four could not go home last year due to limited budget.
“But we are happy that this year, we get to go home to celebrate Christmas and gather together with family and friends whom we have not seen in a long time,” he said.
Meanwhile, as a safety precaution, the authorities and boat operators also made sure that all passengers wrote down their details before boarding the boats.
