KUCHING: Come Oct 31, if Petronas fails to deliver the five per cent sales tax on petroleum, the state government will sue the company for breaching the Federal Constitution (FC).
This was the warning given by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing who was responding to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remark that raising the oil royalty to 20 per cent was not workable.
Masing said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) led government had promised the 20 per cent oil royalty to Sarawak and Sabah and was voted to Putrajaya based on that promise.

“They have been voted in and today they say they can’t do it because PH doesn’t have the money due to Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s financial misdeeds.
“This excuse has been repeated over and over again in the last two years. I’m getting tired of it and so are Malaysian voters,” he said.
The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president said they cannot just simply renege on their promise.
“That’s cheating!” exclaimed Masing.
He said a PH MP even said in public in Iban, “Enti enda bula, enda menang” (If you don’t lie, you can’t win).
“I say no more lying. Vote PH out in the 15th General Election (GE15). They are a disgrace to Malaysians,” he said.
