SIBU: The wider public here has been called upon to follow the footsteps of the “Unsung Heroes” within the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS).
MRCS Sibu Branch chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee revealed that this specific group of people included the honourary advisors, smart partners, dedicated volunteers, first-aid instructors, fellow committee members, school principals, teachers, school cadet members and staff.
“Their compassion, integrity and selfless services stand as an inspiring example for all. We warmly encourage more civilians and students to step forward, join our humanitarian efforts and together help to build a kinder, safer and more resilient society for everyone,” he said in his address at the MRCS Sibu Branch’s Appreciation Nite 2025 held at its premises here on Saturday.
The event was graced by Bukit Assek State assemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek as guest of honour, who is also MRCS Sibu Branch’s honourary advisor.
Describing these specific group of people as the unseen force behind the humanitarian drive, Chua stressed that their voluntary services and dedication is a powerful testament to the spirit of “gotong-royong” and compassion that runs deep within the Sibu community.
He said the event was also to reflect and shine a long-overdue spotlight on the many “Unseen Heroes”, whose heroism is not announced with fanfare.
He added that it is found in the quiet, selfless acts that define the very essence of humanitarian and their greatest work often motivated by a desire to help others rather than personal glory.
Through this event, he said MRCS Sibu Branch wants to pay tribute to these people for them to be recognised.
“While we present certificates and tokens of appreciation, please note that these are merely symbols, and can never fully capture the depth of our gratitude. They cannot measure the sacrifices you have made, the time away from your family, the personal resources spent and the emotional strength you have poured into your voluntary services.
“Your spirit of co-operation and commitment have strengthened our mission and enabled us to reach further. Your solidarity and willingness to collaborate have empowered us to continue serving humanity with compassion, integrity and unity.
“We deeply value your dedication, generosity and partnership as we look forward to the year ahead,” he added.
Chua also extended sincerest gratitude to the director and medical personnel of the Sibu General Hospital, Education Department, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), blood donors, sponsors, well-wishers, entrepreneurs and public whose continuous support had rendered the work possible and smoothly for making MRCS Sibu a force for good.
