MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who also serves as the Asajaya assemblyman and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, has reiterated the party’s pivotal role in the state’s governance and development.
Speaking at the PBB Lambir Triennial General Meeting (TGM) attended by over 1,000 delegates from the party’s sub-branches, Abdul Karim emphasised PBB’s historical and contemporary significance as the foundation of Sarawak’s political landscape.
“PBB has been the backbone of Sarawak’s government since its inception,” said Abdul Karim.
“We have endured barriers and resistance over decades but have persevered to ensure the continuity and development of the party and the state. Since the 1960s, we have undergone a long and challenging journey, and today, we stand proud as a party deeply embedded in our community.”
Abdul Karim highlighted PBB’s transformation from its early days of holding only 12 seats in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly to becoming the dominant force in the state’s ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“Once upon a time, we were like any other party,” he remarked.
“But through visionary leadership and unwavering support from our members across Sarawak, we have grown into the strongest political entity in the state. This strength has not gone unnoticed; even parties in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah acknowledge our progressiveness and commitment to advancing Sarawak’s development.”
He reaffirmed PBB’s dedication to ensuring Sarawak’s continued growth and prosperity under GPS, stressing that the party’s responsibilities extended beyond politics to securing the well-being and progress of the state.
“Our role as the backbone of Sarawak will persist….Together, we will forge ahead, committed to a brighter future for all,” he said.
