SIBU: The Clean and Green Gotong-Royong Programmes organised by the Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Banyok Branch have successfully attracted the participation of about 30 local residents in an effort to raise awareness of maintaining environmental cleanliness.

According to the PBB Banyok Youth Head, Mohd Al-Walid Junaidi, the activity was made possible with the collaboration of the Banyok Darul Ibadah Surau, Banyok Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and the Darul Rahmah Kedada Surau.

“The programme focused on cleaning work in the Lanang Bridge area and its surroundings, which included garbage collection work to ensure a cleaner and safer environment for road users,” he added.

Al-Walid stressed that apart from the gotong-royong activity, there was also a symbolic handover of plastic bags to hawkers around the Lanang Bridge area as a step to encourage them to manage waste more systematically and responsibly.

He said that the programme was aimed not only to increase public awareness of the importance of cleanliness, but also to strengthen the spirit of cooperation and unity among the local community.

“It also reflects PBB’s concern for the well-being of the community and efforts to maintain environmental sustainability,” he stressed.

Al-Walid added that such programme is expected to continue periodically to ensure that the message of cleanliness continues to be instilled among residents, apart from supporting efforts to create a cleaner, harmonious and friendlier community.

The event was officiated by the PBB Banyok Branch Head, Zulizam Jenal together with Al-Walid.
