KUCHING: The Opar branch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has declared its readiness to play a key role in ensuring that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) retains the Opar seat and captures a proposed new seat in the area in the coming Sarawak state election.

According to its chairman Datuk Willie Mongin, preparations for the election were among the main issues discussed during the branch’s recent meeting which focused on its direction and strategic planning for this year.

He said members unanimously agreed that strong grassroots mobilisation and unity among coalition partners will be crucial to ensure victory for GPS in the constituency.

“The branch is fully prepared to assist the coalition candidate in defending Opar and securing a new seat should the delineation be implemented,” he said.

The Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament said the branch will intensify its engagement with local communities while strengthening cooperation with other GPS component party leadership at the grassroots level.

He stressed that unity among GPS component parties will remain the cornerstone of their preparations.

“With strong cooperation and a well-organised grassroots machinery, we are confident GPS will continue to receive strong support from the people in Opar,” he added.

Willie, who chaired the branch meeting in Bau recently, said it was an important platform to discuss the direction and planning of Opar PBB branch activities for 2026, and to further strengthening cooperation and unity among the party leadership at the grassroots level.

He thanked the committee members and branch representatives who attended and provided their commitment and support in ensuring that the party’s struggle continues to be strong for the well-being of the people.

Hopefully all the plans discussed can be implemented well for the development of the area and the well-being of the community.

Opar is currently held by Billy Sujang from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), which is one of the component parties in GPS.
