KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has approved the formation of the party’s Presidential Council, to strengthen its decision-making process and enable swift responses to emerging issues.

The proposal was made during the party’s 16th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) which ended on Sunday.

Premier and PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that it was proposed that the president, deputy president and senior vice president be included as members of the council.

Deputy Premier and PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that the implementation of the Presidential Council will only take effect once the necessary legal procedures are completed.

“This is like a small committee. So, when there are issues that need to be discussed immediately, it’s easier.”

He added that the council would not replace the party’s Supreme Council but would serve as an additional layer to expedite discussions before matters are brought to the Supreme Council for endorsement.

Uggah also said that once the legal framework is finalised and approved, the Presidential Council will be officially submitted to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for registration.
