KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing is strengthening its grassroots machinery across Sarawak to ensure election readiness ahead of the 13th Sarawak Election, which could be called at any time.

Its chief, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the movement had instructed its divisions, branches and grassroots networks to enhance their organisation and ensure every aspect of election preparations was in place.

“We have to be prepared even though we do not know when the election will be held. The current State Legislative Assembly term ends in February 2027, but the election can be called at any time,” she told reporters after chairing the PBB Women’s Supreme Council meeting today.

Fatimah said PBB Women remained active throughout the year instead of only during election periods, describing continuous community service as one of the movement’s key strengths.

She said preparations had become even more important following the increase in the number of voters through the implementation of automatic voter registration.

“The increase in new voters presents a major challenge. Besides those turning 18, there are also eligible Malaysians above 18 who were previously not registered and are now automatically included in the electoral roll.

“We need to know our voters, especially the new voters, and intensify our engagement with them,” she said.

Fatimah said PBB Women would continue organising programmes to empower women and disseminate information on government assistance and initiatives, particularly through outreach programmes such as ‘Kamek Prihatin Kitak Penting’.

She said the initiative enabled party members to engage directly with communities while helping eligible recipients access various forms of government assistance, including welfare aid and other state initiatives.

Meanwhile, Fatimah said PBB Women had 182,773 members as of July 8, contributing to PBB’s total membership of about 398,000.

She added that efforts to recruit more women into the party would continue as part of its ongoing membership drive.
