KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth has chided Perak DAP vice-chairman Abdul Aziz Bari over his call for the resignation of Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi from the federal Cabinet.

In a media statement, the youth wing said Abdul Aziz’s call was an attempt to ridicule a Sarawakian leader raising legitimate concerns over the state’s rights.

The call was made in response to Nanta’s recent remarks, including his use of the term “divorce” in expressing Sarawak’s concerns over challenges to its rights within the Federation.

PBB Youth said such remarks reflected the frustration felt in Sarawak amid what it described as increasing scrutiny and contestation of the state’s constitutional rights, adding that expressions by Sarawak leaders should be viewed within this broader context.

The movement also took issue with media reports that cited Abdul Aziz as a constitutional law expert without reference to his political affiliation, saying the remarks were political in nature rather than legal interpretation.

The youth wing said Sarawak’s concerns stem from longstanding issues related to the state’s position and rights, and urged critics to study Sarawak’s claims and legal standing before drawing conclusions.

It stressed that Sarawak’s claims are based on existing legal frameworks and principles, and reiterated its support for Nanta and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in the efforts to safeguard the state’s rights in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963, the Inter-Governmental Committee Report 1962, and both the Federal and Sarawak Constitutions.
