KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth clarified that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) did not issue any directive or endorse any representative to get involved in the ongoing Sabah state election, following viral photos of Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing appearing at a campaign event in Sri Tanjong.
In a statement today, the wing said the GPS chairman had not mandated any involvement in the polls and no party delegate was sent to Sabah.
It added that Tiong, who is the national Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and president of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), was present in Sabah in his personal capacity.
“His presence was not under the direction, authority, or representation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak,” it said.
PBB Youth stressed that any action or statement made by Tiong in Sabah did not reflect GPS’s official position, nor did it have any direct link to the coalition.
“GPS expressed its commitment to continue to respect the relationship with the state of Sabah and not to interfere in local political affairs throughout the Sabah election,” it added.
The wing said the clarification was necessary to prevent misinterpretation and reaffirm GPS’s neutral stance in the 2025 Sabah polls.
