KUCHING: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) Puncak Borneo chief, Diog Dios, has joined calls for police to conduct a thorough investigation into a speech delivered by UMNO Sepang’s chairman, Noorazli Said, which allegedly insulted Christianity and distorted a passage from the Bible.
Diog, who was accompanied by several party supporters, lodged a police report at the Kota Sentosa Police Station on September 16, alleging that remarks made during the UMNO General Assembly on September 12 had offended Catholics and Christians.
He alleged that Noorazli narrated an obscene joke involving a Catholic priest and a Catholic nun, and attributed it to Psalm 129 during his speech.
He claimed the reference was untrue, saying Psalm 129 contains no such content but instead speaks about the deliverance and victory of the righteous over oppression.
“Making fun of Christian religious figures and misusing a sacred biblical text is inappropriate, disrespectful and carries bad intentions towards another religion,” he stressed.
Diog said he viewed the matter seriously, alleging that the remarks demeaned the dignity of Catholic priests and the religious vocation within the Christian faith while contradicting the Rukun Negara principles of Belief in God and Courtesy and Morality.
He further claimed the speech could fall under laws relating to religious offences and incitement if it was capable of creating disharmony among religious communities.
He added that if the speech had been uploaded or disseminated through social media platforms, it could also be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which concerns the transmission of obscene, false or offensive content through network services.
Diog said the police report intended to stop the mocking of Bible verses or religious figures during official events, preserve Malaysia’s interfaith harmony, promote mutual respect among different faiths, and urge the Royal Malaysia Police to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
