SIBU: Parti Demokratik Progresif (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing will not be challenged at the party’s upcoming triennial general meeting if its Dudong branch has its way.

At the branch level meeting on Sunday (April 16) members adopted a resolution calling for a no-contest for the presidency at the June TGM in Bintulu.

Its chairman councillor Teo Boon Siew said this was one of the four resolutions  agreed upon by the branch.

“Yes, we agree to support party president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the triennial general meeting in June,” he said to reporters at its service centre.

He said the second resolution had to do with the Dudong branch agreeing to establish its fourth branch in Sibu Jaya.

“We have three party branches namely Durin, Naman and Sungai Assan. We agreed to establish a new branch in Sibu Jaya to provide services to the residents of Sibu Jaya,” he said.

The third resolution is that the branch will apply for additional allocations for agricultural assistance to farmers in the Dudong area.

“We will apply for additional allocations for agricultural aid such as fertilisers, pesticides and spraying equipment to ease the burden on affected farmers,” he said.

Teo said, their fourth resolution would be to ask the police to patrol the sawmill area in Dudong after receiving reports on wood theft.

“We received a report regarding the theft of wood in a sawmill by individuals suspected of being involved in drug abuse activities. We are concerned about this situation happening in Dudong.

“Therefore, we have agreed to request the police to patrol for the safety of the residents in the Dudong area,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Teo thanked the party members for their full support to the party president to represent Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the contest for the Dudong constituency.

“Thanks to the support of party members and the trust of the people, Datuk Seri Tiong won the Dudong constituency in the 12th State Election,” he said.

PDP Dudong branch has a total of 3,388 members.

Also present were PDP Supreme Council Members, Datuk Seri Lau Kueng Chai and Penghulu Ting Hua Kuok.
