BINTULU: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) has given assurance that it will not backstab any component party in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
In stating this, PDP’s president, Tiong King Sing said that the leaders in PDP had pledged their support to Sarawak under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to maintain the state’s unity and cooperation.
“You (Abang Johari) don’t need to worry, we in PDP will not do any backstabbing of any component party.
“But sometimes if we don’t disturb other people, they will ‘kong kali kong’ against us. We want to maintain the unity,” he said during PDP’s Chinese New Year Open House at the Dewan Suarah Bintulu here today (Feb 18).
GPS comprised four component parties – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
For the record, the PDP and the then local opposition party, Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) had signed an MOU for collaboration in Kuala Lumpur on July 13 last year causing political tension.
In addition, the local opposition party PSB, which won three state seats during the 12th Sarawak state elections in 2021, announced on July 13 last year that it would support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
