SIBU: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) expresses its full confidence and support for the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, following remarks made by the Prime Minister concerning the recent Global Travel Meet (GTM) event.

PDP affirmed that Tiong has always carried out his duties with sincerity, integrity and dedication to the nation’s interest.

“His immediate acceptance of the Prime Minister’a advice and his pledge to ensure full compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) demonstrate humility, accountability and loyalty to the spirit of Cabinet unity.

“Tiong’s strong leadership has revitalised Malaysia’s tourism industry, expanded international cooperation, and strengthened our nation’s image on the global stage.

“His commitment to hands-on, action-oriented governance has consistently brought results that benefit our nation and its people,” PDP stated in a press statement today.

The party urged all quarters to view the GTM episode in its proper context, and avoid politicising or misrepresenting the issue.

Constructive criticism is welcome, but it must be grounded in fairness and respect for facts.

Tiong has always placed Malaysia first, and PDP stands proudly with him as he continues to serve under the Prime Minister’s leadership for the greater good of the nation.

Meanwhile, PDP’s Senior Vice-President, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, has called upon PDP comrades and fair-minded Sarawakians to stand united in support of Tiong.

“At this critical moment, when truth is often clouded by political noise and narrow-minded agendas, we must stand firm and speak with one clear, united Sarawak voice.

“Tiong is being unfairly targeted and misunderstood simply because he dares to speak up, act boldly, and put the interests of the people above political convenience. He has never been one to hide behind protocol or empty promises.

“His leadership has always been marked by action, courage, and results, from promoting Sarawak’s tourism and trade, to defending the rights of our people against racial and religious extremism, and a man who stands for unity, fairness and progress – values that lie at the heart of the Sarawak spirit,” he said at a press conference held at PDP Bawang Assan Branch here today.

According to Wong, who is also Bawang Assan Assemblyman, the recent event showed how a genuine effort for Malaysia’s progress can be twisted by irresponsible politicians seeking to divide the people.

“But Sarawakians are wiser than that, knowing the difference between sincerity and hypocrisy, between leadership and politicking,” he said.

He pointed out that Tiong’s record of service, his straightforwardness, and his unshakeable commitment to both Sarawak and Malaysia speak louder than any accusation.

“Today, we call upon all, regardless of race, faith, or political belief, to rally behind Tiong and show that we stand with leaders who dare to speak the truth, who reject extremism, and who embody the independent, hardworking and harmonious values that define Sarawak.

“We must not let divisive forces from outside our state dictate our future. Sarawak’s strength has always come from our unity, our moderation, and our ability to work together in peace and mutual respect.

“Supporting Tiong is not just about defending one man; it is about defending Sarawak’s dignity, independence of spirit, and the right to stand tall in the federation,” Wong stressed.
