SIBU: The Gawai Dayak celebration is a reminder of the Progressive Democratic Party’s (PDP) commitment towards protecting the rights of the Dayak community, said Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

The PDP Senior Vice President said this includes the party’s commitment to ensuring equal development across rural Sarawak, and empowering every citizen through education, infrastructure, and economic opportunities.

“So tonight, as we share in laughter, music, and friendship, let us also share in our common dream that Sarawak will continue to rise, led by a community that is strong, united, and proud of its identity,” he said.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman said this in his speech at the PDP Bawang Assan Pre-Gawai celebration held at a renowned hotel here on Friday night.

He stressed that Gawai Dayak is not just a festival but a reflection of who we are: a proud, resilient, and culturally rich Dayak community.

“It is a time when we honour our roots, celebrate the harvest, and look forward to a better future with hope in our hearts,” he said.

Meanwhile, on Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), he expressed hope that all component parties would remain united in facing the next election.

“Let us not forget that while we are celebrating our tradition, we must also prepare our next generation to take on the future.

“If there are parties that try to challenge others within GPS, it can be a sign of the importance of discussion and unity in the coalition,” he added.

He also urged all PDP’s members to always prioritise the people’s interests, strengthen unity, and serve with sincerity.

“Every party member must remain focused on their responsibilities to the community and not allow titles or positions to cloud their commitment to service.

“Service is not merely about positions or titles, but about responsibility and action.

“Always place the people as the top priority in everything we do. Stay grounded in reality,” he said.

Also present was PDP President cum Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
