KUCHING: The Sarawak contingent for the Borneo Games 2025 will not only enter the competition with months of preparation, but also with specialised support in nutrition, sports science, and mental health care.

Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the state has made athlete wellbeing a priority in the final stretch of preparations.

Rentap speaks to reporters after the pep talk with the Sarawak contingent at the Sarawak Sports Village.

“Here at the Sarawak Sports Village, we are complete with high-performance and sports science facilities.

“We have nutritionists, physiotherapists, and even counsellors to provide motivation,” he told reporters during a pep talk for the contingent today.

He added that athlete care goes beyond physical performance, especially with weather conditions shifting between heat and heavy rain in recent weeks.

“We want to ensure that our athletes are not only physically ready, but also mentally calm. Anxiety before major competitions is normal, so we must help them prepare holistically,” he said.

Rentap said this approach is to ensure the athletes are in peak condition and able to perform well in the upcoming Borneo Games.

He also said the camp, which began two days ago, will continue for another six days before wrapping up on Sept 24.

For the record, the Borneo Games Kuching 2025 is expected to draw about 1,000 athletes when it takes place from Sept 24 to 28 at the Sarawak Sports Complex in Petra Jaya.

The sports contested are swimming (Sept 25–28, Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre), archery (Sept 25–28, Sarawak Archery Arena), athletics (Sept 25–27, Sarawak Stadium), tug of war (Sept 27–28, Petra Jaya Sports Complex), blowpipe shooting (Sept 27, Petra Jaya Sports Complex), badminton (Sept 24–28, Stadium Perpaduan), lawn bowls (Sept 25–27, Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena), and VIP golf (Sept 27–28, Sarawak Golf Club).
