KUCHING: National women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, continued their fine run at the Thailand Open 2025, booking their spot in the semi-finals after a commanding straight-sets victory today.
The Malaysian duo, currently ranked at world No. 4, produced a confident performance to defeat China’s Chen Qingchen and Wang Tingge 21-16, 21-17 in just 48 minutes at the Nimibutr Stadium.
Pearly-Thinaah dominated early proceedings, capitalising on Chen and Wang’s inconsistent rhythm.
The Malaysians were sharp at the net and aggressive in their shot placement, keeping the Chinese pair under pressure throughout.
The win serves as a significant morale booster for the Malaysians, particularly as Chen Qingchen is a reigning Olympic champion and one of the sport’s most decorated doubles players.
This result marks their third consecutive semi-final appearance this season, following a finals berth at the Indonesia Masters in January and a strong showing in the Asian leg of the tour.
Earlier in the tournament, the pair battled through a tough three-game match in the Round of 16, showing grit and resilience – qualities that once again surfaced in today’s quarter-final.
The Malaysians are set to face Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara of Japan tomorrow (Saturday, May 17) for a seat in the finals.
