Pedestrian killed in late-night road accident

MIRI: A 36-year-old foreign national was killed in a road accident involving a car late on Friday night.

The fatal collision occurred at about 11.30 pm on December 12 along Jalan Kampung Wireless, Miri district. The incident involved a single motor vehicle and a pedestrian.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said police received a report shortly after the incident. Initial investigations at the scene found that the car was driven by a 37-year-old local woman who was travelling from Miri Airport towards Krokop.

“Upon reaching Jalan Kampung Wireless, the driver was believed to have struck a pedestrian who was in the middle of the road and attempting to cross towards Kampung Wireless,” he said in a statement.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the collision. The driver was not injured.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have information related to the case to come forward to assist with investigations. They may contact the investigating officer, Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim, at 014-858 2582 or 085-430 479, or report to the nearest police station.

ACP Mohd Farhan also urged road users to remain vigilant at all times and to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
