KUCHING: Sports analyst Datuk Pekan Ramli is confident Kuching City FC have what it takes to remain among the top five teams in the Malaysian Super League, pointing to squad stability and a focus on player fitness as key strengths.

Pekan said the club’s decision to retain around 70 per cent of last season’s squad – with the only notable departure being import striker Tchetche Kipre to Penang – would give head coach Aidil Sharin a crucial advantage.

“This is an important factor in strengthening the team for the coming season, making Aidil’s job easier,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today.

He also noted that Aidil has taken a serious approach to fitness by bringing in renowned fitness coach Azmi Ibrahim, who previously worked with him at Singapore’s Home United during their AFC Cup triumph.

“As such, the new-look Kuching City squad appears more stable, solid, and sustainable and will be a cause for concern for any challenger, including reigning champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT),” he added.

Looking ahead to the season opener, the veteran sports analyst stressed that a positive start would be vital in building momentum.

“A good start is crucial for any team to boost the players’ morale and ignite the fans’ enthusiasm. It will also serve as a benchmark for how far Kuching City can go this season,” he said.

Despite the challenges posed by a new campaign, Pekan is backing the home side to make a winning start.

“I firmly believe Kuching City will take all three points tomorrow night,” he said.

Kuching City FC will face Kelantan The Real Warriors at 8:15 pm on Saturday (August 9) at Stadium Negeri.
