KUCHING: A total of 200 students from two schools received some timely help from the Association of Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders of Malaysia (Pekema) Sarawak here on Tuesday.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Government Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said the students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Encik Buyong and SK Samariang received school bags, pencil cases and learning supplies to help them prepare for the new school term.

A news report by TVS quoted her as saying the initiative is not just about providing aid but also serves as motivation for the students.

“The ‘Back to School’ programme is highly beneficial as it supports underprivileged children by providing school necessities.

“With assistance such as new school bags, pencil cases, and other supplies, it helps boost students’ enthusiasm and happiness in attending school,” she said at the Pekema ‘Back to School’ Programme at SK Encik Buyong.

She also praised Pekema Sarawak for its commitment to consistently carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes at various levels, including in suburban and rural areas.

“This programme is very meaningful as it is part of Pekema Sarawak’s CSR responsibility in giving back to the community, especially to children in need of assistance,” she added.

Its president Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi said the programme is part of their ongoing commitment to supporting education as a foundation for a brighter future.

“Our goal is to spread joy and provide assistance that can help shape the future of our children.

Through this programme, we are not only easing the burden on families but also highlighting the importance of education in shaping the future of the younger generation,” he said.

He added that Pekema Sarawak will continue to expand such initiatives to more rural schools, ensuring that no student is left out from receiving the necessary support.

The event was also attended by SK Encik Buyong’s headmistress Rosnah Posa and SK Samariang’s headmaster Norman Suhaili.
