SIBU: A father figure is like an umbrella that shields its young from rain and heat.

With this sentiment, Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee distributed umbrellas to fathers at Rejang Park wet market today (June 16) in conjunction with Father’s Day.

Tiang likened the umbrellas to a father figure that protects his family. “This morning we gave out umbrellas to every father in the Pelawan constituency. There is a meaning (for us choosing an umbrella as a gift), because fathers are a protective umbrella for their family,” he said.

He said this when when met at the sidelines after distributing the umbrellas.

Tiang added that Father’s Day is a very meaningful day to remind us of the sacrifices, love, support, and guidance given by all the fathers in the world.

“A father plays an important role in shaping the family and character of the children,” he stressed.

Tiang, accompanied by community leaders under his constituency, managed to distribute a total of 800 umbrellas in conjunction with the celebration in three different areas in the Pelawan constituency.
