KUCHING: A 72-year-old housewife from Penang became an instant multi-millionaire after winning the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot worth more than RM40.1 million in the draw held on January 28.
According to a press release from STM Lottery Sdn Bhd, the woman, a long-time Toto player since the 1980s, purchased a System 10 Lucky Pick ticket after noticing the jackpot had accumulated to nearly RM40 million.
The winner reportedly checked her ticket in the early hours of the morning after being unable to sleep on the night of the draw, before realising all six numbers matched the winning combination of 19, 29, 32, 39, 40 and 54.
“When I checked the numbers one by one and realised they all matched, I could hardly believe it. I was so excited that I could not sleep, but I am grateful and will continue living a simple life,” she was quoted as saying.
In addition to the RM40,120,690.20 jackpot payout, the System 10 ticket also entitled her to an extra RM173,152 in System Play bonus winnings.
The winner later travelled with her husband from Penang to Kuala Lumpur to complete the prize claim, with the couple indicating that they do not have any immediate plans for the windfall.
Describing the win as an early Chinese New Year blessing, her husband said they intended to share part of the winnings with family members while placing the remainder into savings and fixed deposits to ensure long-term financial stability.
STM Lottery confirmed that the jackpot was won in Penang during Draw No. 6082/26 held on Wednesday, January 28.
