KUCHING: The recent proposal to impose a minimum deposit of RM2 million or purchase property worth no less than RM1.5 million as a requirement to migrate to Sarawak has sparked interest among doctors in Peninsular Malaysia.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that this became evident after the proposal by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“Nowadays many want to come to Sarawak. The minute DPM Fadillah made the proposal on certain requirements to migrate to Sarawak, for instance, putting RM2 million.
“Following that, I received 30 to 40 WhatsApp messages from all my doctor friends from West Malaysia that they want to come to Sarawak,” he said after the prize presentation for the Kuching Heritage Race held at SJK C Chung Hua Batu Kawa on Saturday (May 18).
Dr Sim, who is Batu Kawah assemblyman said many professionals have shown interest to migrate to Sarawak.
“Why do you think everyone wants to come to Sarawak now? Harmony and its delicious food is one of them. But most importantly Sarawak’s economy is also growing,” he said.
He added in the past few years especially under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state’s revenue has increased with a record high of RM13.1 billion.
Last month, Fadillah said with the state’s progress, political stability, economic growth and harmony between the people, many, particularly business professionals want to migrate to Sarawak.
“It has come to this point and maybe the state could look into the requirements for those who want to migrate to Sarawak.
“When we (Sarawak) have our own bank, I would like to suggest to the Premier that for those who wish to migrate to the state, among the requirement should be to either deposit a minimum of RM2 million into our (state) bank or acquire property valued at no less than RM1.5 million.
“At least this can generate more income to our state and those interested to migrate can get permanent resident (PR) status in the state,” said Fadillah.
