KUCHING: The people’s welfare and interest are much more important now and not the political stories of has been, said Parti Pusaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu.

He asserted that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was focusing on the wellbeing and socio economy of the people especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our focus is also to ensure things like connectivity and digital economy platforms are in place to benefit the people,” he said.

Gerald was alluding to veteran politician Datuk Seri Edmund Langgu Saga who had decided to join Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

“Langgu is a veteran politician, held positions in a few political parties and even served in the federal Barisan Nasional (BN) Cabinet as deputy minister.

“…and I am sure he can contribute to the council of elders and leadership mantle of that party,” he said when prompted for comments on Langgu’s decision to join PSB.

The Layar assemblyman said the country’s political system was based on parliamentary democracy and with the recent amendment to the Federal and State Constitutions, anyone from 18 years old and above could offer themselves as a candidate.
