KUCHING: A 39-member delegation from the Perak State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transportation Committee (INTAP) visited the Kuching ART Assembly Facility (KAAF) to study the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system under the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.
The delegation, led by INTAP chairman Datuk Seri Ir Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, was briefed by Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ts. Mazli Mustaffa on the latest progress of the KUTS project.
Mazli said that the KUTS project reflects Sarawak’s commitment to building a modern, cleaner, safer and more efficient public transport system with the ART serving as the backbone of the state’s green mobility initiative.
“We are pleased to share our progress and learnings with organisations such as INTAP and we look forward to collaborations that support the advancement of sustainable mobility in Malaysia,” he said during the visit on Friday.
Mazli added that Sarawak Metro remains committed to commencing the first stage of ART operations by the end of next year.
Following the briefing, the delegation experienced a short ride on the prototype ART vehicle at KAAF, gaining first-hand insights into the innovative transport system.
Also present were Sarawak Ministry of Transport permanent secretary Datuk Wong Hee Sieng, representatives from the Sarawak State Financial Secretary’s Office and the systems package 1 contractor for KUTS — a joint venture between EPR (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, Mobilus Sdn Bhd and Global Rail Sdn Bhd (EMG JV).
