KUCHING: A total of 150 recipients, including orphans, special needs children, and children from eligible families, have received back-to-school assistance.

Perkep Sarawak chairperson, Datin Jennita William, officiated at the handover ceremony held at the Senior Officers’ Mess of the Sarawak police headquarters on Jan 14.

“The programme aims to support underprivileged children and recognise the academic achievements of students from the families of police personnel,” she said.

The programme was initiated to ensure underprivileged children are not left behind in preparing for the upcoming school term.

Sixteen recipients attended the ceremony to receive their aid in person, while the rest will have their contributions delivered through family representatives.

The assistance, which consists of cash donations, was made possible through Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) via Perkep Sarawak.

“In addition to aiding those in need, the programme also celebrated the academic success of children of policemen who excelled in their studies.

“Fifteen students—comprising children of senior officers, junior officers, and administrative staff—were honoured for achieving straight A’s in the 2023 SPM examination or maintaining a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 and above in their diploma, certificate, or bachelor’s degree studies.

“This recognition is intended to inspire these children to continue striving for academic excellence,” she added.
