KUCHING: A total of 40 individuals from underprivileged backgrounds received festive contributions during the Majlis Sumbangan Aidilfitri 2025 at the Samariang Service Centre, Jalan Merak today.
Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Kuching Branch chairwoman Datuk Seri Sharifah Mordiah Tuanku Fauzi emphasised the importance of continuing to assist those in need.
“Even though we live in Kuching, we still face poverty due to rural-to-urban migration.
“This initiative ensures that everyone, regardless of their background, can experience the joy of Syawal.
“That is why we must do what we can to help those in need.
“On behalf of PERKIM Kuching branch, this is what we can offer to those who require assistance,” she said when officiating the event.
She also said that PERKIM Kuching carried out many activities related to the community, whether in terms of ‘dakwah’ (Islamic propagation), education, welfare or other essential needs.
Hence, this aligns with PERKIM’s mission to be a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that consistently supports the community, particularly the Muslim community in Sarawak.
This annual initiative by PERKIM Kuching branch aims to celebrate and support those in need, ensuring they can experience the joy and festivity of Syawal.
The event provided recipients with cash aid and goodies from the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (PEMADAM).
The beneficiaries included tahfiz students, orphans, new converts, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and the asnaf group from various state constituencies, including Samariang, Satok, Pantai Damai and Tupong.
This year’s contribution event saw an increase in the number of recipients.
PERKIM Kuching Branch also took the initiative to extend contributions to tahfiz students from selected tahfiz institutions.
