KUCHING: With Syawal’s blessings still in the air, Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Kuching Branch gathered 120 members and family guests for its Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri 2025 at Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites today.

Their chairwoman, Datuk Seri Sharifah Mordiah Tuanku Fauzi, said that the Hari Raya gathering is an annual event organised by PERKIM Kuching Branch to strengthen ties among its members and to celebrate the joy of the Syawal month.

“These gatherings are a healthy activity, one that strengthens relationships among us, and an activity encouraged by our religion to celebrate Aidilfitri and foster forgiveness among each other.

“What matters most is that we, as Muslims and PERKIM members, remain united, work together, and support one another with sincere hearts, regardless of our status because what matters is our collective goal to strengthen the Muslim ummah.

“Unity is essential. When Muslims stand together, we earn the respect of followers of other faiths and that is why it is so important for us to demonstrate our unity to society,” she said in her speech when officiating the event.

She also encouraged Muslim women to embrace knowledge, join religious organisations, and participate in educational programmes to enhance their lives.

“Without knowledge, it’s difficult. We must be role models for others. Thus, as mothers, wives and grandmothers, it is essential for us to seek knowledge.

“So that as women, we are not just beautiful, not just rich, but knowledgeable too. From the way we dress, to the way we speak, everything are be done with form and with knowledge.

“Let us work together to uplift the standard of living for Muslims, and set an example for others, so we can invite others to Islam,” she added.

With the theme of ‘Raikan Raya Bersama’, the event also saw participation and contributions of several organisations such as SATT College, various hotels around Kuching, Orchidwoods Company, as well as individuals.

PERKIM Kuching Branch expresses its sincere gratitude for their generosity and support, which helped enliven the event.

For the record, PERKIM is the largest Islamic non-governmental organisation in Sarawak, uniting Muslim women through welfare, educational and religious activities.

PERKIM, with more than 20 branches across Sarawak, focuses primarily on Muslim women and Sarawakian women in general, and the Kuching Branch alone has 511 members from all over the Kuching Division.
