JAKARTA: Indonesia’s national energy company, Pertamina, has given its assurance that national fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supplies remain secure for the public, despite escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Its Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, said the company is continuously monitoring global energy developments and has undertaken mitigation efforts to ensure the smooth flow of the global supply chain and safeguard national energy resilience.

“As an integrated energy company, Pertamina has a diversified portfolio of crude oil, fuel products, and LPG supply sources, both from domestic production and from various partner countries.”

“This diversification provides flexibility in supply management amid geopolitical dynamics,” he said in a statement.

Muhammad said Pertamina is also optimising domestic refinery operations to maintain a balance between production and distribution.

“With integrated supply management from upstream to downstream, the company ensures that the availability of fuel and LPG for the public remains secure, adequate, and well-controlled.”

“As the frontline of national energy, Pertamina is tightening supervision and striving to ensure that the resilience of crude, fuel, and LPG supplies remains secure to meet the needs of all Indonesians,” he said.

Muhammad said Pertamina has identified three of its strategic business units directly exposed to the developments in the region.

These include PT Pertamina International Shipping, particularly its non-captive global energy transportation activities; Pertamina Internasional EP, which operates upstream oil and gas assets in Basra, Iraq; and PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, which is responsible for crude oil and petroleum product procurement from sources in the Middle East, he said.

“All personnel, operations and fleets located in the Middle East area are being closely monitored.

“Pertamina has also prepared risk mitigation measures and strengthened communication with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Indonesian Embassy, the Indonesian Consulate General and local authorities to ensure smooth operations and crew safety,” he said. –  BERNAMA
