SARATOK: Pesta Saratok, which boasts a variety of sports, cultural, community and sales activities, is not merely meant for entertainment as it also serves as a platform to empower the local economy, foster unity, and promote cultural heritage.

Kalaka Assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, said that the festival is approaching its peak with the Regatta Kalaka scheduled to begin this Friday.

“This means most of the planned activities have run smoothly, and we are heading towards the main event – the boat races. People must understand that these efforts are not just for entertainment purposes.

“It’s about supporting the local community by creating economic opportunities, celebrating unity, and upholding our culture.

“This is a golden opportunity for small traders, artists, and local youth to shine and showcase their talents,” he told Suara Sarawak today.

He added that the festival revives the village spirit by reconnecting people near and far.

“When the voices of the people echo along the Krian River and children’s laughter fills the marketplace, that is proof that Pesta Saratok is more than just an event, it’s a symbol of unity and identity.

“I hope that from July 11 to 13, everyone will bring their families to visit Saratok as there’s still so much more to experience.

“Indeed, Pesta Saratok 2025 is a colourful event that brings the Saratok community together for a meaningful celebration,” he said.

Earlier activities included the 3×3 Basketball Tournament (open to the Western Zone, Sarikei, Betong and Sri Aman), organised by the Chiang Chuan Association Saratok, led by Pemanca Lim Guan Ann.

The men’s category was won by We Auto Spray, while the women’s category was won by MSBC.

Meanwhile, the Closed and Invitational Doubles Dart Tournament saw participation from 64 teams from Sri Aman, Sarikei, Betong, Sibu and Saratok, with team 96800 JR emerging as champion.

The inaugural event of Pesta Saratok, the Kalaka Mountain Bike (MTB) Challenge, attracted 26 participants.

In the open men’s category, Mohamad Ehsan Abdullah Sahari took first place, while Irfan Naufal Madaan won the junior men’s category.

Mohamad Hazim Suib won the men’s 80-kg and above category, and Naina Adriana Idris dominated the women’s open category.
