KUCHING: Renowned Islamic scholar and international speaker, Ismail ibn Musa Menk, better known as Mufti Menk, made a special short visit to Kuching as part of the Petra Jaya Da’wah Expedition 1447H / 2025M.

It was a collaborative effort organised by Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (JAIS), Petra Jaya Service Centre, Sarawak Islamic Information Centre (IIC), and Masjid Ikhwanul Islam Taman Sukma.

His presence drew large crowds and warm reception from the local community.

On Friday (July 11), Mufti Menk joined the local community for Friday prayers at Masjid Darul Hana, Jalan Patingan.

His surprised attendance sparked excitement among the crowd, many of whom took the rare opportunity to meet and greet the Zimbabwean Grand Mufti in person.

Later that evening, the IIC hosted a public lecture by Mufti Menk to a full capacity crowd.

Attendees included families, students and community leaders, all eager to hear his thoughts on living with purpose and kindness in an increasingly fast-paced world.

Delivered with his signature calm and engaging style, Mufti Menk encouraged attendees to reflect on their values, relationships, and roles in society.

He spoke about the importance of showing compassion across communities, embracing differences, and carrying out good deeds with sincerity.

The talk was well-received, with many describing it as a much-needed reminder to stay grounded.

On Saturday morning at dawn (July 12), Mufti Menk continued his da’wah journey with a kuliah subuh (dawn lecture) at Masjid Ikhwanul Islam, Taman Sukma.

Despite the early hour, the mosque was filled with early risers keen to listen to his delivery. His message touched on the five pillars of Islam.

He emphasised on gratitude, setting the right intentions, and the importance of maintaining balance between worldly responsibilities and spiritual growth.

Many attendees expressed appreciation for the opportunity to listen to Mufti Menk in person, saying the sessions gave them a sense of clarity and motivation to lead more purposeful lives.

His arrival in Kuching not only drew attention from the local Muslim community, but also showcased Sarawak’s continued efforts to foster inclusive religious engagement through meaningful dialogue and community outreach.
