SIBURAN: Construction of Petra Jaya Hospital has reached 82 per cent completion, with the Health Ministry (MoH) closely monitoring progress to ensure the long-delayed project is completed as soon as possible.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the ministry remained focused on making the necessary decisions based on current conditions to keep the project on track, without committing to a firm completion date.

He said overall progress at the hospital site remained smooth and satisfactory, with several matters still requiring resolution before further clarity could be provided.

“I do not want to make any prediction, but if it were possible, I would have wanted it completed yesterday,” he said when met after officiating the openings of the Siburan Health Clinic and Serian Health Clinic at the Siburan clinic compound here today.

Dr Dzulkefly said this was his second visit to the project site, noting that action had previously been taken against the former contractor during his earlier visit in 2019.

He expressed confidence in the current contractor but stressed the need for continued discussions to ensure adequate support was provided to stabilise and complete the project.

“What is most important for us now is to ensure the project stands and moves forward properly,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sarawak State Health Director, Dr Veronica Lugah, said the department hopes for stronger coordination between the Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractor to ensure timely completion of the project.

She noted that the PWD serves as the technical agency for the project, adding that close cooperation among all parties involved is crucial to resolving outstanding issues.

Petra Jaya Hospital is now expected to be fully completed by the end of February, following earlier projections that had targeted completion around August 2025.
