KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) is planning to expand its Car Free Morning programme by introducing a new route in Petra Jaya this year.

The move aims to allow more residents to enjoy weekend morning recreational activities.

DBKU mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman said surveys showed strong public support for holding Car Free Morning in Petra Jaya.

“This year marks its fifth year since its introduction. In view of this positive response, DBKU has planned an expansion by introducing an additional Car Free Morning route in Petra Jaya.

“This reflects DBKU’s plan to further promote recreational activities among city residents, particularly those living in the Petra Jaya area,” he told reporters when met here today (Jan 18).

He added that studies have been conducted and the route has been identified.

“If all plans go smoothly, the implementation of Kuching Car Free Morning in Petra Jaya is expected to begin in April or May this year

“God willing, as the location is close to the residence of the Premier, we hope to invite him to join city residents for weekend morning recreational activities,” he added.

He said that currently, the Car Free Morning programme at Padang Merdeka is held on the first and third Sundays of each month.

“Therefore, we propose that Car Free Morning in Petra Jaya be held on the second Sunday of each month.

“Let us all pray that this plan receives strong support from city residents,” he said.
