SEBUYAU: PETRONAS, through its subsidiary MLNG Sdn Bhd, has contributed an estimated RM800,000 to SMK Sebuyau for facility enhancement works.

PETRONAS Senior Vice-President of LNG Assets, Abang Yusuf Abang Puteh, said the funding also covered equipment for the computer laboratory, classrooms in Block A, and the boys’ dormitory (Asrama Putera 3).

Beyond Sebuyau, Abang Yusuf said that the ‘PETRONAS Powering Knowledge’ programme has also extended educational support in the form of learning equipment to other areas, including Ulu Roban, Tatau, Sebauh, Betong and Dalat.

“Today, we are honoured to be here to present this contribution to SMK Sebuyau.

“We hope the assistance will be fully utilised to enhance the daily learning environment and help ease the school’s financial burden,” he said in his speech during the ‘PETRONAS Powering Knowledge: MLNG Bestari Outreach’ programme held at SMK Sebuyau here today.

The programme was officiated by Utility and Telecommunication Minister, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.

Under the MLNG Borneo Bestari initiative, he added that MLNG is working with Yayasan Sarawak to sponsor 80 Sarawakian students annually from Form 1 to Form 5 to attend boarding schools in both Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, from 2024 to 2029.

“Our hope is for these sponsored students to excel in their SPM examinations, thereby qualifying for PETRONAS Education Sponsorships to pursue their studies locally or abroad and eventually, prepare them for careers with PETRONAS.

“This is our goal, not only to support sustainable education, but also to help meet future workforce demands in the oil and gas sector,” he added.

He also expressed his hope that students from Sebuyau, especially those in rural areas, will have the opportunity to be selected for the MLNG Borneo Bestari programme and advance on equal footing with peers from urban areas.
