KUCHING: Flood evacuees in Sebauh have received much-needed assistance as Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) stepped in to support the Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) in the district.

As part of its relief efforts, PETROS donated 10 gas cylinders and two gas stoves, which were handed over by its representative, Tabita Tanjong, to Sebauh District Officer’s representative Frances Sherri Lia Jilan, at the Sebauh District Office yesterday (Feb 8).

According to Frances, the aid was initially meant for two PPS locations, namely at Balai Raya Sebauh and SMK Sebauh.

“However, the chairman of the Sebauh District Disaster Committee, who is also the Sebauh District Officer, has issued an official notice for the closure of the PPS at SMK Sebauh.

“As a result, all contributions will now be utilised at PPS Balai Raya Sebauh, where the secretariat will prepare meals for the evacuees,” she said.

The PPS at Balai Raya Sebauh was activated on Jan 29 and currently accommodates 33 household heads (KIR) with a total of 98 victims.

Meanwhile, the PPS at SMK Sebauh, which was activated on Feb 3, had housed 5 KIR with 19 victims before its closure.
