SEBAUH: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has facilitated the delivery of food aid to residents of longhouses in Kelabat and Sungai Genaan, who were cut off from road access due to prolonged flooding.

PETROS said it funded the rental of two boats to support the Sebauh District Office in delivering essential supplies to Rumah Justin Juan in Kelabat and six longhouses in Sungai Genaan —Rumah Ikum Lang, Rumah Kelly Badang, Rumah Jamban Ingeh, Rumah Lai Tajak, Rumah Lipu Rundang, and Rumah Bryant Pawong — on Thursday (Feb 6).

The mission, led by Sebauh District Officer Thadeus Ling Bartholomew Allu, provided aid to 165 households and was assisted by the Marine Police.

“The food supplies, consisting of dry goods and essential items, were provided by the Bintulu Division Welfare Department,” Thadeus said, in a statement, adding that the collaboration between government and non-government agencies ensured swift assistance to affected residents.

He also thanked PETROS for covering the boat rental costs, which allowed aid to reach the communities more efficiently.

“We hope that this effort will help ease the burden of the residents affected by the flood,” he said.

Also involved in the operation were PETROS representative Tabita Tanjong and Samalaju police station chief ASP Thomas Sulok Ulik, representing the Bintulu district police chief.
