KUCHING: The Saribas Islamic Community Association (PERWARIS) has expressed full confidence in the Sarawak government’s ability to drive sustainable development across the state.
Its chairman, Associate Professor Dr Bolhan Budeng, said Sarawak’s capability was clearly demonstrated in the post-COVID-19 period when the state was among the first to recover.
“Therefore, if criticisms are raised regarding Sarawak’s ability to implement major projects, they should be based on thorough research.
“Following the pandemic, Sarawak swiftly rebounded in critical and strategic sectors.
“We are confident that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak can become a model of development, not only for Malaysia but for the wider Asian region,” he said when speaking to Suara Sarawak yesterday.
Dr Bolhan, who lectures at i-CATS University College, stressed that the Sarawak government acted with careful deliberation and expertise.
“There are many specialists in the government, each with their respective fields of expertise.
“Every initiative undertaken — past, present, and future — is meticulously planned, taking into account current challenges and potential risks, all aimed at ensuring the well-being of the people,” he said.
He noted that major initiatives, such as the construction of a new international airport, the development of a modern public transport system, and the Sarawak gas blueprint, had all undergone detailed studies prior to approval.
Dr Bolhan added that any possible issues — whether emerging during or after project implementation — would have already been considered during the planning stages.
“In short, I believe the Sarawak government is deeply committed to its goals.
“If we do not act today, then when? Our focus is clear: to advance Sarawak’s progress and to achieve a high-income status for our people,” he said.
