KUCHING: Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching (Pewarta) is set to organise a business reporting workshop aimed at equipping local journalists with the tools and expertise required to navigate the technical and nuanced landscape of business journalism.

Pewarta president, Peter Sibon, said the workshop is timely and necessary to raise the standard of business reporting in Sarawak.

“Business stories require a deeper understanding of technicalities and economic context.

“This training will help our journalists identify and deliver crucial elements in their stories more effectively,” he said.

He said the initiative will also enable journalists to play a greater role in disseminating key information about Sarawak’s economic development agenda.

“This is especially relevant as the Sarawak government works toward achieving high-income regional status by 2030,” Sibon added.

The workshop will provide participants with opportunities to learn how to write compelling business stories, draft practical business proposals, exchange ideas, and strengthen their overall understanding of business-related topics.

“We hope local journalists will take full advantage of this initiative to refine their writing and reporting skills, especially in a field that is becoming increasingly important,” Sibon urged.

Peter accompanied by Pewarta auditor, Adrian Lim, paid a courtesy call today on the Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, to brief him on the upcoming workshop and extend an invitation for him to attend as guest-of-honour.

During the meeting, Sagah presented Pewarta with a contribution to support the organisation and execution of the event.

Pewarta also expressed its deep appreciation to Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Tun Openg, for allocating RM35,000 to facilitate the hosting of the workshop.

The workshop is expected to be held later this year, with details to be announced soon.
