KUCHING: It is the wish of every Sabahan and Sarawakian that the federal government will honour its promise to pay 20 per cent oil royalty to both Borneo states.

Institute of Development Studies Sabah (IDS) chair Tan Sri Datuk Panglima Simon Sipaun said after all, this was promised by the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led government during its election manifesto when it said it would raise the oil royalty from five per cent to 20 per cent if it was elected to power.

“Give both Sabah and Sarawak what is rightly due to them under the Federal Constitution (FC).

“Selling Petronas shares to Sabah and Sarawak, as mentioned by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, doesn’t make any sense at all.

“To me, it is like taking your properties and selling them back to you,” he said in a recent interview.

Asked whether he agreed with Sabah Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Jeffrey Kitingan’s remarks that the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Special Cabinet Steering Committee was just a farce, Simon did not comment.
