KUCHING: In celebration of the upcoming Seng-Ong Deity Birthday and Procession on March 21 here, the Kuching Hockien Association (KHA) has announced the return of the Harmonious Sarawak Photography Competition.

Now in its third year, the competition aims to provide photography enthusiasts with a platform to showcase their skills while capturing the vibrant atmosphere of the religious festivities.

KHA President Datuk Richard Wee said they are excited about hosting the competition once again and inviting all photography lovers to participate.

“Through this competition, we hope photographers can truly capture the essence of the Seng-Ong Deity Birthday and Procession – the emotions, the interplay of light and shadow, atmosphere and the crowd,” he said in a press conference at KHA’s office, Jalan Green Hill today.

Meanwhile, from March 18 to 21, participants can begin capturing key moments, including temple activities and the grand procession.

Participants may choose between two categories, namely the Mobile Phone Category, with a registration fee of RM20, and the Professional Camera Category, which requires a RM30 fee.

Winners in the Professional Camera Category would receive RM1,000 for the champion, RM800 for the first runner-up, and RM500 for the second runner-up.

Additionally, ten participants would be selected for the Excellence Award.

For the Mobile Phone Category, the champion would be awarded RM500, while the runner-up would receive RM300.

The second runner-up would be granted RM200.

Similar to the professional category, ten participants would be recognised with the Excellence Award, each receiving RM50.

All winners will also received a certificate each.

Interested individuals can register by scanning the QR code available in a video posted on the KHA’s Facebook page.

Registration and payments can also be done by obtaining the form at the Hong San Si Kuching Temple cash counter.

Alternatively, they can scan the QR code to access the form, and transfer the registration fee to Kuching Hockien Association Hong San Si’s UOB bank account at 184-303-7742.

Participants will then receive a contestant pass upon registration, granting them to access designated areas of the temple to capture moments of the celebrations.

All entry forms, payment receipts and photo submissions must be emailed to kuchinghockien@gmail.com.

Those who have not registered in advance may still participate by submitting their photos before the competition deadline on April 1, 2025.

An award ceremony will be held at a later date after the judging process is completed.
