KUCHING: Photography professionals and industry leaders from across Asia gathered here last night (July 3) for the 14th United Asia Professional Photographic Regional Dinner.

The dinner, officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Grand Riverine Ballroom, was held in conjunction with the 53rd Anniversary of the Federation of Commercial Photographic Societies Malaysia (FCPSM) and the 19th Anniversary Dinner and Inauguration Ceremony of the Sarawak Commercial Photographic Association (SCPA).

The event also coincided with the 14th United Asia Professional Photography Association (UAPPA) Annual General Meeting, the FCPSM Executive Meeting and the Regional Photographic Workshop 2026, with delegates from China, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand and across Malaysia attending the gathering.

Dr Sim said the gathering provided an important platform for professional development, knowledge sharing and stronger cooperation among photography professionals in the region.

“We in Sarawak are honoured to host the 14th United Asia Professional Photography Association Annual General Meeting, the Federation of Commercial Photographic Societies Malaysia Executive Meeting and the Regional Photographic Workshop 2026,” he said.

He said the event brought together professional photographers, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the region, creating opportunities to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise.

He noted that the evening was particularly significant as it marked three important milestones: the 53rd anniversary of FCPSM, the 19th anniversary of SCPA and the installation ceremony of the Sarawak Commercial Photographic Association’s new committee.

Congratulating the newly installed committee members, Dr Sim said their appointment reflected the confidence placed in their leadership and commitment.

“As you begin this new chapter of service, I encourage you to lead with integrity, professionalism and innovation,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the association would continue to strengthen the commercial photography profession, nurture future talent and foster greater collaboration both within Malaysia and internationally.

Dr Sim also expressed appreciation to the outgoing committee members for their dedication and contributions, saying their efforts had laid a strong foundation for the association’s continued growth and success.

He encouraged the UAPPA, FCPSM and participating associations to continue collaborating with local photographers and young talents through regional training programmes, professional exchanges and collaborative initiatives.

He also invited delegates to experience Sarawak’s attractions, diverse cultures and hospitality during their stay and to share their experiences with their professional networks upon returning home.

“Help us tell the world that Sarawak is a destination worth visiting, worth investing in and worth returning to,” he said.
