MIRI : A telecommunications tower in Piasau Camp here caught fire on Sunday morning, triggering an immediate response from the Fire and Rescue Department.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operation Centre, the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 8:50 am.
The incident was initially reported as a suspected electrical short circuit.
Upon arrival, firefighters found approximately 30 per cent of the telecommunication tower already ablaze.
A six-member team led by Operations Commander, PB Aloyses Ganang, was deployed to the scene using one Fire Rescue Tender.
The crew brought the fire under control and is currently conducting overhaul operations to secure the structure and prevent any further ignition.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
