MUKAH: Pickleball is fast gaining ground as a platform for health, unity and community engagement across Sarawak.
In line with the sport’s rapid growth, the Public Works Department (JKR) Mukah Division pickleball team, better known as Sokanjaya Mukah, recently held a friendly match against Dewan Tujunokala Picklers as part of their preparations for the JKR Sarawak Director’s Cup Pickleball Tournament 2026.
The tournament is scheduled to take place on Jan 30 and 31 in Samarahan Division.
Sokanjaya Mukah team leader, Aaron Alexius, said his squad are in good form heading into the competition, where they aim to defend their Men’s Open title won in the 2025 edition.
“This is part of our preparation to retain the Men’s Open championship. We are also targeting a strong challenge in the Team Event category this year,” he said.
Aaron expressed his appreciation to Dewan Tujunokala Picklers for accepting the friendly match invitation and providing strong competition throughout the encounter.
He added that such matches were vital in sharpening performance, improving team chemistry and identifying areas for improvement ahead of major tournaments.
Meanwhile, Roslan, who represented the organising committee, said the maiden pickleball tournament held in Mukah recently at Petanak Community Hall received an encouraging response from the local community.
“The tournament attracted 44 players, with doubles pairings determined through a random draw,” he said.
He added that the event not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also strengthened sportsmanship and unity among the local community.
