KUCHING: A friendly doubles pickleball match between Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-Isteri (SABATI), MAKSAK and PETRONAS Sarawak highlighted efforts to promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle among members at the SABATI multi-purpose hall on Wednesday.
The programme featured five SABATI/MAKSAK pairs competing against PETRONAS in a spirited contest aimed at fostering camaraderie and positive engagement between organisations.
SABATI sports sub-committee chairperson Datin Sri Hajah Zuraini Abdul Jabbar said pickleball was chosen as it is suitable for a broader age group and carries a lower risk of injury compared to higher-impact sports.
“We initially considered badminton, but we wanted something that is safer and more manageable for our members while still keeping everyone active,” she said.

She added that pickleball’s inclusive nature makes it ideal for encouraging long-term participation in sport among SABATI members.
Zuraini also expressed hope that future friendly matches could involve more organisations.
“If more organisations join us next time, it will be even merrier. The more participation we have, the stronger the spirit of camaraderie,” she said.
