SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch, organised by its Youth Wing, successfully hosted the “Pickleball Exchange 2.0” on Sunday (Jan 18) at SMI Park, West Bank, drawing about 50 residents and creating a lively atmosphere.
Participants from various age groups, both men and women, took part enthusiastically in the exchange, reflecting the sport’s growing appeal within the community.
SUPP Bawang Assan Branch chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said the event not only highlighted the rising popularity of pickleball but also strengthened neighbourhood ties while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
He expressed appreciation to the Youth Wing, led by its chief Kapitan Chew Hoo Kiong, for its proactive efforts in planning and carrying out meaningful activities since the start of 2026.
Lau noted that these initiatives included community outreach programmes and visits to engage with senior citizens earlier in the year, underscoring the Youth Wing’s commitment to serving the community.
He described the pickleball exchange as a timely initiative that successfully combined a trendy sport with community participation.
“Through sports, young people are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle, develop a positive outlook and strengthen interaction across different age groups through shared interests,” he said.
Lau also hoped more youths from the Bawang Assan area would join the Youth Wing and actively participate in community service.
“In doing so, they will not only serve the people but also build positive social networks, injecting greater vitality and unity into the community,” he added.
