KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) officially launched its pickleball club through the “Pickleball Friday with The Vice Chancellor” programme.

The university successfully held the “Pickleball Friday with The Vice Chancellor” programme for the first time to introduce the sport of pickleball to the campus community at the Summer Pickleball Arena in Kota Samarahan on Friday.

In a press statement issued today (Feb 8), it was stated that the programme aims to encourage the UNIMAS community to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports activities.

“A total of 40 UNIMAS members, consisting of staff and students, participated in the event to try out the sport, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere.

“During the event, UNIMAS vice chancellor Professor Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit, officially launched the UNIMAS Pickleball Club, which now has more than 100 members,” the statement read.

The club serves as a platform to promote the increasingly popular sport of pickleball within the UNIMAS community.

The establishment of this club is expected to be a catalyst for greater involvement in sports activities, contributing to the creation of a healthier and more active community.

Therefore, the statement mentioned that the programme not only emphasises the importance of physical activity but also serves as a means to strengthen social ties among the UNIMAS community.

With the encouraging response, UNIMAS plans to continue such initiatives in the future, making pickleball one of the preferred sports at the university.
