SIBU: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Sungai Merah received a donation of 500 books yesterday (Dec 19), demonstrating the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament’s (BPIT) commitment to fostering community development alongside sporting excellence.

CEO of BESarawak, Amelia Roziman, said this initiative is expected to benefit the school’s 874 pupils by enhancing their access to educational resources and encouraging lifelong learning.

As the largest pickleball tournament ever held in Borneo, the event combined competitive spirit with community outreach.

Organised by the Kuching Pickleball Association, BPIT incorporated the Books Build Legacy programme by BESarawak. The initiative was supported by The Hills Kuching shopping mall and the local news portal Dayak Daily.

“When selecting the beneficiary school, we collaborated with theSekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Sungai Merah , the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the Village Development and Security Committee of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya.

“Their guidance ensured the donation reached a community where it would have the most meaningful impact,” she said.

The handover ceremony took place at SK Ulu Sungai Merah, attended by representatives from BESarawak, the school, and partnering organisations.
