KUCHING: A woman, who was riding pillion, died on the spot while the rider suffered severe injuries after their motorcycle crashed into a car along Jalan Bako here.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah confirmed that the pillion rider, identified as Siti Khadijah Sudun, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations found that the crash happened around 8.45pm, Monday (July 18). The car had pulled over by the roadside after suffering what is believed to be a tyre puncture.

“Shortly after, the motorcycle ridden by the victims, who were heading to Demak Laut, crashed into the rear of the car after failing to avoid it.

“As a result, both were thrown off the motorcycle, resulting in the death of the pillion rider at the scene,” ACP Ahsmon said, adding that Siti Khadijah’s body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the unidentified 35-year-old rider was rushed to SGH for immediate treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
