MIRI: A night cycling trip turned tragic for two individuals when one of them died after being hit by a car along Miri-Airport Road near Tamu Muhibbah here recently.

Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident occurred on Apr 8 at around 8.20 pm.

“Investigations found that the accident happened when a Vios, driven by a 40-year-old man, struck a bicycle ridden by a 43-year-old local man.

“A 36-year-old woman was riding pillion on the bicycle,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the cyclist suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital.

Police did not provide further details regarding the condition of the pillion rider.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
